Who is The Hook?

To be honest, I hate this page.

Ever since I started to erode the standards of the world-wide web by starting a blog several years ago, this page has been a source of embarrassment and personal shame. I’ve never felt comfortable providing a worthy A to the biggest Q of them all.

Who am I?

And can you blame me? After all, it’s the ultimate question isn’t it? That, and “Why are we here?” And of course, “What did we ever do as a race to deserve the Kardashians?” Oh, and “Who wrote the Book of Love?” and “What the hell is really going on with Trump’s hair anyway?”

But getting back to me, (since, you know, this is my blog), I was the stereotypical shy, pasty, retiring white kid who always had his nose buried in a book.

A comic book.

Comics directed the course of my life. They taught me to look beyond the physical world, to follow my dreams and to value the lives of others.

Always.

Ironically, that quiet kid grew up to become the world’s most outspoken bellman. How outspoken, you ask?

“I’m sorry, was I NOT supposed to tell the guest his hairpiece looked like a poodle died on his head? His wife agreed.” – Day One of my career as a bellman.

Being a bellman requires more than a few people skills, a loud voice at times and plenty of ingenuity. Every day brings a new challenge; if you can’t adapt quickly, you’ll be bowled over. Sometimes literally.

The North  American hospitality industry is composed of two separate, yet woefully unequal groups: the hordes of travelers who leave a trail of devastation in their wake, and the poor bastards who serve them.

These are their stories.

But they’re also mine.

As a bellman, I’m the guy you don’t pay attention to; the one in the corner of the room, unloading your luggage, i.e., laundry baskets, garbage bags and pillows. I’m always watching, observing, picking apart your behavior, which is usually fascinating – and sometimes, disturbing. I call Niagara Falls, Canada, my home, but I’m a citizen of the world, connected to every corner of the globe through the experiences of others.

And you’re welcome to come along for the ride.

As I always say:

“What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.  What happens in Niagara Falls?  That goes on my blog.”

As for my “civilian life”, I’m a husband, a father, a friend to at least ten unlucky souls, a victim, a survivor, an obsessive tweeter (I’m happy to report that William Shatner, among others, has blocked me), a failed author, TV pitchman (CBC hates my guts) and I currently occupy Number ten on the FBI’s “Who Cares About These People?” list.

Occasionally, I’ll sleep. But not often.

As for this little slice of blogging Nirvana, you’ll notice some postings that deal with subjects other than my life in the hospitality trenches, like Vampires Ruined My Marriage!, which they did.

After 21 years of marriage my wife has become obsessed with the young, handsome, undead bloodsuckers of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries. Of course, she has had to put up with my love of comics and sci-fi, which by the way, has spread to my young daughter.

In your face, wife!

You may think me harsh, but as a husband, there are precious few victories under my belt, so I have to gloat when I can. Plus, I’m kid of a jerk.

That’s all for now. I’ll let you know if I evolve at all.

(Hey, it could happen.)

See you in the lobby, kids…

  2. Likes: Archie comics
    Dislikes: vampires…eew

  3. bmj2k says:

    I second your likes.
    And triple your dislikes!

  4. This is a hugely funny site, which is beautifully done to boot. When I come across such creative ability, I understand why my own web site never had a chance in being selected for “Freshly Pressed.”

  5. William says:

Nice! I’m a recent fan of Doctor Who myself. Now, what are your feelings on Supernatural?

  6. missjackie says:

Doctor Who beats sucky vampires any day (no pun intended ~grin~).

  7. elenamusic says:

Oh man!!! I love vampire stuff too. I read the Vampire Diaries as a teenager, so I was 10 years ahead of the times!!! This was hilarious. I have to check out your other blog as well.

  8. vampirelover says:

Excuse me!!! This is wife and what do you mean ‘In your face?’ Vampires are the coolest . You know I read all the Twilight, Vampire Diaries, Vampire Kisses novels and now Stefan Diaries. And guess what you will have to put up with more when two new books come out in another month. In Your Face!!! LOL
    Wife
Oh and by the way Doctor Who sucks…..

  9. bellemedland says:

Haha! This cracked me up, and then the comment from ‘wife’ was just the cherry on the cake! I actually ‘lol’d.
Consider me a loyal follower from…now!

It appears that joey houssian’s, owner of Outdoor Adventure Whistler, attempt to distance himself from bob fawcett’s tragic slaughter of the 100 sled dogs will not be too successful as the truth starts to come out. This story is only 6 days old, I have no doubt that more names will be coming out to share in the horror of and responsibility for this event.

  11. I’m not into vampires, just a Greek blonde girl trying to get her music out there. But I know the Twilight stories are very popular!!

  18. Thanks for stopping by our blog! We’ll be traveling for 4-5 months this year (with our dog), so we’ll be hitting you up for advice. We could use the advice of someone who has been in the hotel industry for 12 years!

  19. mindslam says:

Hey Hook, you should come join my social site that I built. It’s free & I would love to have you….I’m sure you could bring some really good stuff to it! Check it out when you have some extra time! http://www.japslap.com

  20. Thanks for checking out my blog! From the little I have read of yours, you crack me up! Hilarious! I’m a subscriber now!

  21. Hook…..I appreciate your many visits to my site. Especially appreciated are your many up-finger “likes.” Thank you for your continued encouragement in my poetry work.

    John

  22. Thanks for visiting my blog, Hook! I’ve been reading some of your most recent posts, and enjoying them. I spent 2 1/2 years in a call centre selling/servicing cruises for a major travel company, so I can relate to a lot of your interaction with “douchebags” who travel!

I have subscribed…happy to add another Canadian to my reading list (I’m in New Brunswick, but grew up near Belleville, Ontario).

  23. melsar93 says:

I have awarded you The Versatile Blogger Award! (Which is another way of saying – tag you’re it.)

    • The Hook says:

Thanks. I actually have a post ready listing my selections – Redneck Princess already gave me one – but I have issues keeping the list to seven. There are tons of great bloggers like yourself out there.

  24. mbwilliams says:

Hi Hook! Cool name! I found your blog through, Marie? She lives in Texas, and said I might enjoy your blog! So far so good! LoL!
I’ve delt with the public most of my “adulthood” and can totally agree with you! Most of the public is douchebags!

  31. Jaan says:

Just read some of your recent posts. Awesome piece of work! Really great! Please keep on blogging and don’t stop. I have even subscribed! By the way thanks for stopping by my blog too!

  32. Okay, my bad you’re over 40! I guess you can officially say now we’re all getting old.
Hey, buy yourself some fangs and a cape. It’s called ROLE-PLAYING, BABY! 🙂

  33. Yogizilla says:

Oh em gee.. A fellow Doctor Who geek! Now I’ve definitely been hooked!! =oD

You’re doing a great job raising your daughter, BTW.. I have nothing against vampires (in fact, I love them) but it seems The Vampire Dairies seems to focus on the stinky side of the vampire lore, much like the Twilight saga.

Give me more blood and gore. The soapy parts are O.K.. Let’s just skip the soaps. This isn’t “Days of our Lives” or “The Young and The Restless”, folks! ;o)

  34. EmilyAlice says:

Finding your blog very entertaining. Glad to see you are raising your daughter on a healthy diet of Doctor Who, have you shown her the oldies? Maybe a bit too cheesy and low budget for her! Looking forward to your next installment about the lovely people you serve 😉

  35. brittany220 says:

I think it’s cool that you like comics and sci-fi! I never really read comics, but I watched a lot of cartoons. My brother Sean is more of a sci-fi person than I am though. Nice blog though, very interesting and well written!

  36. mybrightspot says:

I enjoyed reading your blog. I just started one myself.

I too have been involved in the food and hospitality industry for over 10 years. I can relate to much of those experiences!!!

  37. Errign says:

  40. lexy3587 says:

Hey, thanks for swinging by my blog and commenting! I read through some of your more recent posts, and they are great – seems like you put up with a lot of irritatingly oblivious people on a daily basis, and without losing your temper (to their faces 🙂 ). And then blog about it to make people laugh, a perfect solution!
Doctor Who is pretty awesome, congrats on having a daughter who didn’t fall into the vampire-trap.

  41. Androgoth says:

Strangely enough I also like vampires 🙂

Hey, TH. I got your comment re self-publishing. Drop me an email and I’ll tell you what I know (and direct you to my friend who’s done this route). 🙂

  44. Your delightfully sociopathic disdain for most of the general populace impresses me greatly. I shall call again soon!

  45. Nice site. Really, a Bellman? That’s pretty cool.
Props on the marriage and family. See you in the blogosphere!
    Les

  46. I have been trying to subscribe to your blog. I have not received the email for confirmation! Any ideas?

  47. I did get it figured out! Thanks so much for visiting! I appreciate the time you took to look around!

  48. nicole says:

how do you feel about luke perry’s role in the original “buffy the vampire slayer?” i’m not a fan of edward cullen, but i’d take a slice of vampire luke perry anyday! 😉

  49. Tom Baker says:

Hey Hook, which actor played your favorite incarnation of Doctor Who?

  50. Tom Baker says:

Not knowing how old you are I would like to think my namesake, Tom Baker.

  51. Becoming Bitter says:

Your dislikes, are my dislikes Captain Hook. It’s a good thing your daughter didn’t get caught up in that nonsense. I hate twilight and I especially hate vampires (and werewolves too).

    • The Hook says:

Well, my wife – VampireLover as she’s known in the blogoshpere – won’t like your comments, but I think you’re good people!
      Thanks for the visit.

  52. Becoming Bitter says:

Not a problem Captain Hook. I’ll be dropping by and commenting on your stuff. I promise. It’s just that there is so much going on right now. I will look forward to your future posts.

  53. Ahem, and what is wrong with Twilight? The question is…Team Jacob or Team Edward!!!??? Choose your words wisely. 🙂

  54. Becoming Bitter says:

Unlike you Hook, I am never on the sidelines. I don’t care for wise words. Attack me Stephanie, but I’ll have you know I’m armed with a wand and I have a poisonous black snake. I also have an army of death eaters at my disposal. Tread carefully.

    • The Hook says:

Can’t we all just get along? Not everyone is cut out for the vampire craze! Just keep your black snake and wand to yourself for now! I don’t have insurance to cover any damage caused by a cyber-feud!

      • Becoming Bitter says:

My name is Bitter – Captain Hook. We cannot get along. Save those lines for the young ones. Remember my friend, I have a wand. I need only say a spell and all the damage will disappear.

      • The Hook says:

        That’s convenient!

  55. JamieAnne says:

Ha! Oddly enough, I like the vampires and the Sci-Fi. I’m an odd duck. I’m a Doctor Who, Stargate, FireFly fan and a Twilight fan.

    Great blog!

  56. You’d better sit down, I have huge news. I have decided to add you to my blogroll. I know, it’s a big day for you.

  58. I have been nominated for the Tell Me About Yourself Award and I thought of you when putting together my list of favorite blogs. If you would like to play along the premise is to tell us seven things about yourself and then post 15 of your favorite blogs.

I’d like to nominate you as well for the Tell Me About Yourself Award.
You must get nominations all the time because your blog ROCKS so hard! However, I couldn’t imagine not including you on my list of nominees. If you choose to share that’s awesome (it can be fake stuff too) and if not it’s cool I know Super Heroes need their secrets.

    • The Hook says:

One of the greatest aspects of blogging is the ability to build bridges to far-off lands – namely, other blogs all over the world – and I’m grateful we’ve had the chance to visit each other’s “special kingdoms”, so to speak!
I know that’s incredibly goofy, but give me a break, I’m more than halfway through a double shift – which means I’ve dealt with double the douchebags!

  59. Maiya says:

Thank you so much for taking the time to drop in to my blog and for all your comments.

  60. Val says:

Thanks for being true to your blogging R&Rs by visiting my blog. Doctor Who is a big favourite in our house. Loved Buffy and Angel back in the day and currently True Blood gets me very excited.

  63. Kanerva says:

Doctor Who! I didn’t realise the Tardis had made it to the States. I remember watching the good doctor when it was Tom Baker. Oops. Showing my age now 🙂 I’ve read your last three entries and can’t wait to read more.

  65. LOL… Oh, I so look forward to your posts – and reading some previous ones, too. You see, I work for a company that contracts blocks of rooms for large sporting events and books in the attending teams. Basically, a middle-man (or woman in my case.) And let me tell you… some soccer mom’s really are off the chain! And hotel DOS’s, too. I’ve come across several that I wonder if they can walk and chew gum at the same time. We hear it all since we work with both ends of the spectrum all over the country. I actually had a parent call to book a block of rooms very late – in other words, very close to the event. Needed all doubles at x-hotel. All doubles at x-hotel (and a,b,c-hotels, too) were all sold out by then. She threw a fit! “We HAVE to have doubles!!! We can NOT stay in kings with sofa beds!” Okay, ma’am…. let me just trot over to this hotel, on the other side of the country, and build an extra wing for you – all doubles, or course. Sound good? She even had the nerve to demand that I move another team (who, mind you, had the forethought to book well in advance) into the kings with sofa beds so THEY could have the doubles. Some people never cease to amaze me.

  66. Josè Pascal says:

  70. Jordan Sky says:

While I’m sick of the vampire bug everyone has caught I can appreciate a vampire story, vampires are the oldest sci-fi known to man. Still give me a comic book, a marathon of Doctor Who any day. Throw in a comic con and I’m a happy person. I love your blog.

  71. TV vampires, ack! Introduce your wife to Anne Rice’s novels- the original Queen of the Damned. I llived in a tourist destination for many years and did my time at an Inn – I love this idea for a blog, ooking forward to reading more

Wait. Now you’re the best writer that I know! I love that you observe others daily. I’ve never seen Doctor Who, but I have heard good things!

  74. Hook, I was not sure where else to put this but, I wanted to let you know that I wrecked my car during winter break and had to purchase a new one to come back to school and get to work. No one was hurt, but reading your blogs recently has cheered me up quite a bit after forking over $1400 for a car.

🙂 Keep posting! Happy New Year to you and your wonderful family!

  75. Okay, I’m not sure if this is the “proper” procedure, but doing it anyway. How else would you know I nominated you for “Candle Lighter Award” – unless you read the post, but life happens and you may miss it (especially with you out being sick right now). Congrat’s! Hey! Hey! You put up my button! Thanks a million, Mr. Hook, you just made my night! 😀
I really appreciate that you would do this for me, it really means a lot to me. To be completely honest with you, I did not think that anyone would actually put up my button, but you are the first one to do so, and I really cannot thank you enough. It means a lot to me that you would take the time to do such a kind gesture as this, Mr. Hook. You are the best, and I am very grateful. Thank you so much! Yours is a blog that I really like to read, its one of my favorites that I have continued to follow since I first discovered it over a year ago, and I have no problem recommending your blog to anyone and everyone. 90. The Guat says:

Very cool. I don’t know the bellman culture but when I saw your bio I thought of a Seinfeld episode where Jerry is at odds with Mr. Pitt’s doorman (Elaine’s boss). Very funny stuff, glad I stumbled upon you 😉

  91. A travel guide from the POV of a bellman is a big idea. Written by you, a best-seller.

  92. Lol I love Doctor Who but Vampires are my favourite too…we (Your wife and me) are vampires trapped in human body kindly understand ..
but then I love sci-fi too so it makes me vampire from distant galaxy/future 😆

  93. Great blog 🙂
thanks for visiting mine I am very grateful for that…….. 🙂

    I like Dr, Who….. apart from Eastenders…… 🙂

    will be coming back…:)

    • The Hook says:

I’ll be here! Apparently there was a Doctor Who/Eastenders charity episode cossover featuring multiple Doctors! That would have been cool…

  94. Misslisted says:

Ohmigosh, my boyfriend is the victim of a “vampires destroyed my marriage” divorce. Apparently having to do with a Twilight obsession, plus many other books/movies/fantasy games being played on facebook and such well into the wee hours on a regular basis. I wonder if this is a common phenomenon… As for me, I could care less about them. I will explore your blog…

  95. Kate Madison says:

Yeah, vampires suck; give me Doctor Who any day. Really like the new-ish writer, Steven Moffat, who also wrote Coupling. That show could be a compromise for you and VampireLover. It’s like Friends, only actually worth watching. And for the record, I’ve always noticed, and greatly appreciated, bellman’s. Thanks for being so kind to all us travelers and for putting up with so much.

  96. Bob says:

But what I don’t get is – what’s the romance with a cold blooded blood-sucker? lmao – Have you ever noticed that most women are always freezing & looking for a sweater (maybe that’s just my universe). Just keep writing so I can keep laughing – you inspire me to keep my sense of humor – keep it up my friend. You are one of a kind that needs to keep posting.

    • The Hook says:

Women are always freezing, aren’t they? Although actually, my wife is usually warm at home…
Thanks for the continued support, Bob.

  97. What an awesome blog! Will return often.

    Have a great day!

Tell your wife about Dark Shadows if she likes retro-vampires that stood alongside the original Batman series in the 60s. I was a little girl when those were on. Had to sneak watching Dark Shadows, but I watched Batman without penalty. Dr. Who is a recent discovery, and you’re right – yummy stuff for me and my two boys!!

Hi, I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. Details are here: http://looserornot.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/the-versatile-blogger-award-yes-im-the-chosen-one/ I hope you accept the award in the spirtit that I nominate you. Have fun best wishes! 😀

  103. Turber says:

As there has been some confusion, I’d like my nominees to know, that the Versatile Blogger Award is given to you, if you declare to accept it by making a post on your blog!
That post must have the rules 1-4 (you’ll find them in my post here: http://looserornot.wordpress.com/2012/03/14/the-versatile-blogger-award-yes-im-the-chosen-one/) fulfilled, that’s all.
There is not a jury or a person picking one particular winner! The nominees themselves decide, if they want to accept the award.
For further questions, don’t hesitate to contact me, and congrats if you choose to take the badge of honor. 😀
P.S.: Consider this as a private message to you. There is no need to approve it.

    P.S. Supernatural FTW!

    • The Hook says:

Yes, seniors pack all their possessions when they leave home don’t they? Great to hear from another hotel wage slave! Housekeepers truly work hard, as opposed to bellmen!

  123. leah says:

I Dont have a blog but I love yours. Dr Who.rocks and the “new school” vampires don’t…even the old school ones were pretty hokey. I love your avatar. Batman/ the dark knight rules..and so do your Bellman posts.

  124. Lee Teter says:

Poor Robert Pattison – all those adoring women to choose from and he chooses just about the only girl in the world who isn’t obsessed by him to settle down with. Doh! LOL!

  125. George Moore says:

Sheesh, Hook. I just saw your mention of your book on Confessions of Your Husband’s Mistress blog. I read some excerpts, and I’m really mad that I missed the free download for my Kindle!! But your book looks so funny that I’m going to spring for the $4.99. And lest you think that is no big deal, I almost NEVER pay for new books. I get my fill at yard sales and from my favoirte book-trading site, http://www.paperbackswap.com, which I highly recommend to all you readers out there.

Anyway, apropos of books on the subject of hospitality, have you ever read Down and Out in Paris and London by George Orwell? Yes, that George Orwell, of Animal Farm and 1984 fame. I’ve read most of Orwell, and this book, along with his essays, are my favorite Orwell. As a Bellman, you will be able to relate to much that he says.

  126. Morrighan says:

thanks for finding me and following me! i’m a doctor who fan also, and i love vamps, especially the sexy ones like lestat and carlisle….

  127. AirportsMadeSimple says:

Hmmm…well, how appropriate that my first swing-by your blog is on Halloween. Ha – As for the bellman thing. Awesome. Just awesome. That you can watch people who don’t know you’re watching, and write down your observations. In that, we are the same, my fellow internet travel blogger. Airports are a fascinating wonder of the human species. Well, and sometimes, not so fascinating…

  128. Yaz says:

Thank you for the visit and for your nice comment! Good luck with your books!

  129. Phil Gayle_For Singles and Couples says:

    Hi The Hook,
    Nice place you have here…
Thanks again for passing by my neck of the WordPress woods and leaving your mark.
Not into the vampire genre (as I was as a kid) last thing I liked along those lines was Bram Strokers version.
Still love my escapist fantasy sci-fi though… Fringe, Grimm & Alphas are my latest faves, still watch the cartoons and animations with the kids was always a Marvel guy but DCs young justice has been good.
Without going into too much personal details (in general) how has life been as a published writer?

    • The Hook says:

It’s been rough! Marketing isn’t one of my strengths, but I’m going to keep swinging. Also, I need to evolve as a writer and especially as an editor!

At times I feel like a complete and total failure… But I’ve achieved my dream of publishing a book and that’s enough for now.

      • Phil Gayle_For Singles and Couples says:

I know it’s tough, was speaking to a writer recently who went the self publishing route.
Keep your head up and take some credit and a bit more belief from what you’ve already accomplished. 🙂

      • The Hook says:

        I’m trying, believe me!

  130. Storkhunter says:

Just found you via Miss Four Eyes. Love your about page, love your blog. I’m hooked.
BTW Vampire Diaries is only watchable with sound off. Ian Somerhalder is yummy, but I really don’t need to indulge in teen angst, I have enough angst of my own. You can’t beat Supernatural for a good demon story.

  131. Hello! I’ve finally made it over here to check you out after I said I would a few days ago. Looks interesting around here, I might hang around for a bit…

  132. J Roycroft says:

Hook, I take some comfort in knowing that I am not alone when it comes to my wife having a crush on one sparkling vampire. Lindsay has always had a fear of flying, but when her opportunity came to fly to Forks to be among the Twilight folks- on that plane she went. She’s even rubbed shoulders with some of the cast and has the photographs to prove to all that doubt her. And I won’t even begin to get into her “Fifty shades of Grey” fascination. No complaints there! Now she is sharing her photographic talents in her own blog. Of course her first two photo posts were shot in Seattle, big surprise there! Give her a shout and please feel free to critique her work. By the way, I am very excited for you and your book. Here is Lindsay’s blog: http://roycroftphotography.wordpress.com/

    • The Hook says:

Now, I have my very own book, A Night at the Sorrento and Other Stories, coming out very soon. Yes, the Sorrento is a hotel, so you should enjoy it. Anyway, I intend to go with the good folks at Amazon, like you have. Just had a few questions for you. I’m not sure what to do as I reach the point of no return. Did you just let Amazon roll with it and provide your ISBN, no fuss, no muss. Or did you get your own ISBN? I want my book to be available in print and as a Kindle. I see that you have three ISBNs, a 10-digit one, a 13-digit one, and an e-book version. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. The hope is to have this out as early as this month. Might slide in Feb but hoping for Jan.

I lifeguarded for years – so I’m a people watcher from way back – and very much enjoy your descriptions and observations from your job.

As for vampires? Twilight is terrible. Honestly? It was the series that made me realize I was OVER the whole high school, coming of age thing. I just didn’t “get it” anymore. It made me feel old. Which is another reason I suspect I dislike it…

But I’m with your wife on the Vampire Diaries. That’s a fun – and smart – show. And one of those rare occasions where the show is WAY better than the books (which were really awful. I collect vampire fiction so I own them. And even for teen fiction? It’s not Twilight hate, but? – Meh.).

Love what you’re doing here. Keep it up!

Thank you very muchly for the warm welcome!! I am happy to discovered you!! I do so love when one (being you in this context) has the ability to infuse their words with their personality!

      • The Hook says:

The truth is, Christina, I’m not talented enough to create a personality to hide behind. With me, what you see is what you get.

      • Christina ~ says:

That is precisely my point. So many people can hide behind their words….but either one has great skill with deception or is in fact the real deal….and with you…I sense the real deal!

      • The Hook says:

Thanks, Christina! Your praise is a wonderful tonic for a quiet, mind-numbing day at the hotel.

      • Christina ~ says:

That makes me happy… I hope the rest of your day is a great one!

      • The Hook says:

Well, I have 90 minutes left, so things are definitely looking up!

      • Christina ~ says:

Yay for looking up! I would imagine, along with what you’ve shared on your blog….your job would allow for some epic people watching stories! I am….anticipatious to read more…

      • The Hook says:

Then stay tuned! I’m a bit preoccupied these days with family activities, but I’ll be sharing more hotel tales soon – I promise!

      • Christina ~ says:

I am well familiar with familial responsibilities/activities! I will have to stay tuned…you have me…hooked…haha

  230. Hooky Hookster! I have no idea how else to contact you, but I had to see if you’ve seen this yet. I laughed so hard, and of course, there was one other person who I thought commiserates about this as much as me. This was a dream come true: http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/ca8e174a54/between-two-ferns-with-zach-galifianakis-justin-bieber

P.S. His interview with Obama was pretty funny too.

  236. Hook, you’re MIA. Everything OK? Hope you’re actually spending what free time you have enjoying life, family, friends, and writing – in any order. The interviews are cool (missed beginning intro of these – a challenge-type deal?), but miss your wit and insights.
Vacations are very much allowed, though…(you’ve tried before…)

  239. Soooo…I feel the need to come clean and let you know that I’m creeping on your site tonight. Just doing a little “research” for the Six Song series and something else a little naughty that I’m working on. I hope you don’t mind!
How did I not know that you wrote a book?!? Do you ever just wanna holler at people while you’re at work and say, “I’m a writer, damn it! Carry your own f-ing bags?”
Seriously though, you have tons of talent, reach a diverse audience and, in my opinion, everyone needs to be hooked 🙂

  242. Wow, I have always wondered what interesting things and people bellboys, maids and concierge at hotels come across. I am glad I found your blog, they are filled with such sense of humour and makes for very entertaining reading!

  243. You got me ‘hooked’ by your first paragraph, and the rest of the bio just got better and better. So fun to find you here (and for you to find my blog at roughwighting – thanks). I hope you post regularly! I’m following you…

  244. Shane Wilson says:

That’s a cool story you have. I’m sure being a bellman have you all kinds of insight into people. It might be a people-watcher’s ideal job, or at least one of the better jobs for watching people…unless “people-watching” is a real job somewhere.

And thanks for swinging through my spot. I’ll be crawling through your archives, and I’ll probably hope over to your pop culture spot, too.

  245. You’re a Whovian. Cool 😀

Visited your blog for the first time in 2 years. Seems like I’ve been missing out on too much. Hooked!

  255. it’s a pleasure to meet you, Hook! You’re a funny guy. I wish you much success with your book. I’m tempted to buy it. Except, I have -$12 in the bank. (Sigh.) But it looks amazing. :0) I’m usually picking apart peoples’ behaviors too, but that’s probably because I’m a psych. major. (In all honesty though, that’s part of my personality too.) Great blog you have! I somehow wish I had a job where you work. We can’t all be so lucky, eh? heheh…

Good morning, Hook. I hope you’re feeling a little better after the passing of your pops. Again, I’m so sorry. Maybe this will bring a little distraction today, maybe not. I nominated you for the Liebster Award. I don’t know if you participate in the WordPress Award process or not. If so, at your convenience. If not, spike it, but please accept this as a sign of my respect for your talent and appreciation of our friendship. Here’s the link to my post. Doctor Who is great! And my sister tried to get to me to watch The Vampire Diaries. I had no choice to give it a fair shot cause she promised me that she’d read Harry Potter of I did. I couldn’t get past the first five episodes. It was bad!

  261. I’ve Been Hooked for awhile ❤

  262. Dear Mr Bellman,

I half-share your like, and join with you fully in your dislike. You could even say I go a step further, & hate all badly-written vampire teen-twaddle with a passion!! If you had two teenage daughters as I do, you would feel my pain.

Liking your style so far! But then I’ve only read two posts. That may change! 😉

    Regards, the Hedgeblog hog.

  263. I know not who you are in the flesh, oh masked crusader of the laugh out loud guffaw – but (cue in the background music here – something majestic… maybe that theme song from The Chariots of Fire) your smartassery (finally – I have found another who uses that term!) – and darest I say… your BRILLIANCE… have provided me with my first hardy laugh out loud this morning. May your smartassery continue to lighten the loads of those poor and weary souls, thirsting for a good laugh in a desert of pomposity, stodgy gloom, and self-righteous indignation. And today may you get the really good tips for which you so richly deserve.

There are a lot of well-written, tight shows out there right now (like The Blacklist) but the CW’s “Arrowverse” shows are my favorite. I love Arrow, The Flash, etc.

But I loved this introduction to you! Totally looking forward to getting to know about the stuff that happens in Niagra Falls

  272. Hook, I want to link to your book on my revamped page (well, getting revamped – why does doing stuff to your webpages always take about half your entire life!) – but I couldn’t find it. Can you send me a link? Thank ya!!
