Once you’ve finished scratching your head over this title, we’ll begin…
You good? Okay, here we go.
The rain has stopped falling in Niagara Falls – for the most part – and while we have emerged unscathed compared to many of our neighbors, the dark skies have not left us. In fact, they have acted as harbingers of the cold, dark winter that lies ahead.
Niagara has the Festival of Lights and the natural wonder of our parks and waterways to attract visitors, but for those of us working in the hospitality industry winter is an annual challenge that chills us to our frozen cores.
Before you ask, this isn’t actually a negative post. I’ve just returned to work after two glorious days off and let me tell you, folks, its The Walking Dead without the zombies around here. Then again, there was an insurance agents’ conference here today, so there were a few creatures that feast on human suffering around…
A brief recap:
- Insurance agents appear to have a better grasp of math than their banking counterparts. I know, I had trouble believing it too.
- Many of them, however, have the same “I wouldn’t spit on this bellman if he was on fire!” attitude going on.
- Strangely though, insurance agents tip better than bankers – but not by much.
One last thing, the hotel’s management held their annual “Town Hall” meetings to fill us working-class drones in on new developments and to assess where we are as a company and where we need to be. We’ll be revamping most of the rooms this year, which is always good, especially when you consider the beating they endure at the hands of the Modern Traveler – and his crazed rugrats after they’ve been hopped-up on Red Bull.
Sadly, my suggestion that we build a “Red Room of Pain” wing was rebuffed, but I still maintain the concept has merit…
TIME FOR OTHER BUSINESS..
A shout-out to my blog buddy, Kristen Lamb and her best-selling tome, We Are Not Alone: The Writer’s Guide to Social Media. Give it a try, folks. You won’t be disappointed…
CHECK IT OUT!!
ONE LAST BIT OF NEWS…
The next chapter of my first foray into fiction is up and running at Wattpad. I have a long way to go as a fiction writer, and I could use all the constructive criticism I can get, so help me out, okay?

Sounds like the place is chilling down for Scrooge-type movies.
I think you’re right…
In response to your title, I reckon we’ve been hooked with or without a hook, but never crooked by you.
I’m not sure I’m up to date with your news. I’m glad you had a 2-day holiday – ah, envy – but I didn’t realise you live near Niagara Falls. That would be amazing – but you’ve come back to the walking dead. What do you mean re wouldn’t spit on you if on fire – you’ve got rights & if you’ve paid your insurance… damn, I don’t know what to say if you’ve suffered damage & they’re not paying.
You’re amazing you’re still achieving outside the crap, then – particularly amazing. Congrats with your continuing production of COMPLETED works 🙂
Thanks! You’ve filled my bellman heart with joy…
Someday I would love to see Niagra Falls. I bet it’s beautiful even with the looming clouds.
It certainly is…
Cage fight bankers v insurance agents…winner insurance agents except for the rude tude.
You always bring a cool comment to the table, Leah. Thanks!
Gonna wander over to read me some Hookey fiction, now
I appreciate it, buddy.
Insurance agents and bankers…you poor man.
You have no idea…
I think you nailed the problem TBM…
>Before you ask, this isn’t actually a negative post.
– What? I turn my back for a little bit, and you turn … a new leaf?? 😉
>after two glorious days off
– 🙂
>I have a long way to go as a fiction writer, and I could use all the constructive criticism I can get, so help me out, okay?
– *scritch, scratch* There. I’ve tacked that on to my ‘To Do’ list.
I haven’t got back into the swing of things in my blog section, so I still have to respond to … and comment one last time on … Oh, you’ll know what I’m rambling about when you read them, Hook.
Kate
P.S.: It feels good to be back. 🙂
Welcome back, Kate! Goo do to have you here.
As always, your attention to detail is appreciated. By the way, I’m not turning over a new leaf, I’m simplify trying to bring some balance to my world.. If possible!
Having lived in Niagara Falls, USA for 4 long years at university, I remember how beautiful the Falls can look when all lit up during the winter and how amazing the American Falls can be when the freeze starts on the rocks below. But I also remember how cold and damp the Falls are (I lived a block from the Falls my freshman year and nearly froze to death). Stay as warm as you can. Silk long underwear is good. That’s my advice.
Good advice, indeed!
Red Room of Pain. I LOVE it. What a great idea? Japan has us beat in the fantasy hotel room concept although the usual use of the room is sex (as in no kids, or at least I hope not). Wonder what it would be like to solo in the Red Room of Pain as a crazed writer?
Hmmm, I don’t know…
Wow..bankers and insurance agents all in a short period of time. What’s next– lawyers? I bet lawyers don’t tip at all. They probably charge you.
Lol on The Walking Dead reference … I’ve seen many working zombies in my time.
I believe you!
“Red Room of Pain”… Sounds a good title for a movie, my dear Hook; or a title for a ‘Bellman Chronicles’ sequel…!
Hmm…
